Jennifer Pearce

MPA
Consumer Engagement Consultant

Jennifer Pearce is the founder of Plain Language Health. She is also a frequent collaborator and strategic partner of Hanserd Health Solutions. Jennifer is a communications leader with over two decades of experience in the strategic application of plain language principles to promote health equity and consumer engagement. She is a national leader in co-producing content and designing care experiences that are easy to understand and act on. Her national client roster includes health systems, government agencies, academic medical centers, non-profits, and public and private organizations.

Jennifer’s work has earned national recognition, garnering ClearMark Awards of Distinction from the Center for Plain Language in Washington, DC. She was subsequently elected to the Center’s board and served as vice-chair through 2019. In addition, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Institute for Healthcare Advancement, and the National Academies of Sciences Roundtable on Health Literacy has utilized her subject matter expertise.

Before consulting, she pioneered Sutter Health’s award-winning health literacy program and led patient experience research within the system’s digital health innovation department. She also designed national patient engagement campaigns at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) to advance engagement and diversity in autoimmune disease genetics research. Jennifer holds an MPA from California State University East Bay and a BA from the University of California San Diego.
